George Forman GRP90WGR Next Grilleration Electric Non-Stick Grill Review

I’m not saying Indoor Grills where unpopular when George Forman started making them, but certainly, most people didn’t have one. People in the US preferred to Grill outdoors and on a large surface. Then George Forman said, we’re going indoors and small. Honestly, I remember thinking that this company was never going to make it. Years later and here we are. I’m a lowly Grill Reviewer and George Forman is millionaires. So what do we experts know? Anyway, after that interesting anecdote about my personal failures compared to Forman’s successes, in this review we’re taking a look the George Forman GRP90WGR Next Grilleration Electric Non-Stick Grill. Apart from inventing a new word, they’ve also continued their long line of simple yet functional indoor Grills. But is it good? Find out below.

Size/Design

The measurements of this Grill are 14 inches by 13 inches by 17 inches, so it’ll fit in any kitchen. That’s what most people need these types of Grill for; as an accessory to their other cooking units. That’s the appeal and this succeeds in that area. It’s also pretty good looking with a nice red finish, sloping design and well-finished black stand raising it up of the ground. It’s actually one of the best looking George Formans around, and because it weighs only 11 pounds it’s easy to transport to different places.

Performance

Assembly

There is no assembly here because the GRP90WGR comes completely assembled. All you need to do is slide in the Grates and turn the power on.

Grates

Speaking of the Grill Grates, they’re not something George Forman is famous for. They’re not Weber. Nobody is going to walk up to your Grill and say it has fantastic Grates and about how they retain heat beautifully for evenly cooked food. The fact is, George Forman, put the same Grates on every Grill they make, and they’re good enough for a decent Burger and a nice Steak. Nothing flashy, nothing amazing, but also nothing so cheap that you have rare meats when you wanted well done. They’ll retain enough heat to cook food quickly, but that’s more to do with the smallish size than the Grates. So what you’re looking at here is typical Forman functionality. It’ll cook food nicely, but if you want something outstanding in terms of Grill Grates then buy a Weber.

Cooking Space

You get 70 Square Inches of space and that’s enough to Grill 4 Burgers or 2 Steaks at the same time. So if you want that extra little gadget in the kitchen and you like the taste of grilled food then this is for you. If you want to have Grill party’s with lots of people then it’s not for you

But wait… George has added a little magic to this one

The unique selling point to this George Forman over all others is that it doesn’t just Grill. I’m actually very impressed by the number of things it does. It’s the ultimate kitchen gadget. It comes with 5 Replaceable Grill Plates. And these all slot in and slot out very easily. There’s a Waffle Plate, a Grill Plate, a Panini Plate, a Baking Plate, and a Griddle Cooking Plate. What they’re trying to sell you on is the fact that you don’t need any other gadgets when you’ve got this. And, they’ve kinda got a point. You can do great Waffles on this and the Panini Plate is certainly something many people will use over and over again at lunchtime. The Baking Plate is for Biscuits and Cakes and the Griddle makes rather good Bacon and Eggs. One of the major complaints about Forman’s has been that Egg’s slip off due to the sloped design, but the Griddle is flat so Eggs are now possible. I was blown away by the numbers of things this can be used for and you gotta give George Forman credit for thinking this up.

Cleaning

To clean this Grill all you need to do is take whatever Plate you’re using and pour boiling water on it slowly. The dirt will all just slide off. Alternatively, you could toss them in the Dishwasher. Unlike some other George Forman grills, this one is dishwasher safe.

Cool Handles?

Well, Forman did make that claim. They said the handles would remain cool to the touch. This is not strictly true because they do get a little warm. But, they don’t get majorly hot so you can always feel safe opening and closing the Grill while food is cooking.

Conclusion

It seems like a normal George Forman Grill until you add up all of the Plates. Then it goes into a world of its own. This is the only George Forman 5 in 1 and it’s the only multi-use Forman that does everything well. There’s really nothing that lets the side down here. Ok, we talked about the Grates and they’re alright but not terrific. But that’s always been the case with Formans. What you get on this is one gadget that’ll make Waffles, Panini’s, Biscuits, Steaks, Burgers and anything else you can think of. It comes at just over 100 dollars too so it’s cheap. I haven’t always been happy with George Forman’s grills but this one made me very happy. Thank you for reading.
